Grilled salmon stands out as the best summer meal for several enticing reasons. Its fresh and vibrant flavors, combined with the charred goodness from the grill, make it a delicious and satisfying choice during the sunny season. Here’s why grilled salmon deserves a special place on your summer menu!

Tips & Notes
- Choose fresh salmon fillets for the best flavor and texture. Look for fillets with bright, firm flesh and a mild ocean scent.
- If using frozen salmon, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight before marinating.
- To prevent the salmon from sticking to the grill, make sure to oil the grates or use a grilling basket.
- Don’t overcook the salmon as it can become dry. Aim for a slightly pink center, which will result in a tender and moist fillet.
- Feel free to adjust the sweetness of the glaze by adding more or less honey or brown sugar according to your preference.
- Serve the grilled salmon with a side of steamed vegetables or a fresh salad for a complete and balanced meal.
Instructions – Gas Grill
- Preheat the gas grill to medium heat (around 400°F/200°C). Clean and oil the grates to prevent sticking.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper.
- Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag. Pour the marinade over the salmon, making sure to coat each fillet evenly. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to 1 hour for more flavor.
- Once the grill is preheated and the salmon has marinated, place the fillets skin-side down on the grill. Close the lid and cook for about 4-5 minutes.
- Carefully flip the fillets using a spatula, allowing the skin to stick to the grill grates. Brush the tops of the fillets with some of the remaining marinade.
- Continue grilling for another 4-5 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. During the last few minutes of cooking, brush the fillets with the remaining marinade to create a glaze.
- Remove the grilled salmon from the heat and transfer to a serving platter. Sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley or chives for garnish.
- Serve the sweet glazed grilled salmon immediately, alongside your favorite side dishes. Enjoy!

How to Grill the Perfect Glazed Salmon
Grilling salmon can be intimidating for beginners, but following these farmhouse-tested steps ensures a juicy result with that signature sweet, charred crust every time.
The Flavor Foundation (Marinating)
Whisk the Glaze: In a medium bowl, whisk together your soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, olive oil, and minced garlic. This combination of fat, sugar, and acid is what creates that incredible caramelized finish on the grates.
The Chill Factor: Place your salmon fillets in a shallow dish and pour over the marinade. Let them sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This doesn’t just add flavor; the salt in the soy sauce helps the fish retain moisture while over the high heat of the grill.
Searing to Perfection (Gas or Charcoal)
Preheat & Clean: Whether you are using a gas grill or a charcoal fire, aim for a steady medium-high heat (around 400°F). Use a grill brush to clean the grates and wipe them with an oil-soaked paper towel. This is the #1 secret to preventing sticking!
The Skin-Side Start: Place the fillets skin-side down first. Close the lid to create an oven-like environment, allowing the salmon to cook through without burning the sugar in the glaze. Cook for 4-5 minutes.
Flip & Glaze: Carefully flip the fillets using a wide spatula. Brush the tops generously with the remaining honey-soy glaze. Grilling the “top” side for the last few minutes creates those beautiful char marks and sets the glaze.
The Finish Line
Check for Doneness: For the best EEAT results, don’t guess! Use a meat thermometer to check for an internal temperature of 145°F. The salmon should flake easily with a fork but still look moist in the center.
Rest & Serve: Remove from the heat and let the fish rest for 2 minutes on a warm platter. This lets the juices to redistribute. Garnish with fresh chives or parsley and serve alongside your favorite sides below!

Serve Grilled Salmon With
Fresh & Fruity Salads: If it’s the height of summer, I highly recommend my Strawberry Walnut Salad or a refreshing Fruit Salad with Citrus Dressing. The fruit acidity cuts right through the richness of the salmon fillets.
Garden Greens: For a more savory crunch, our Green Goddess Salad or a crisp Apple Waldorf Salad adds a wonderful texture that stays light on a hot evening.
The Perfect Bread: No farmhouse dinner is complete without something to soak up that extra glaze! My Sourdough Cheddar Biscuits are always a hit—they’re cheesy, flaky, and add that “made-from-scratch” comfort we love.
Quick Veggie Tip: If you have the grill fired up already, throw some asparagus spears or sliced zucchini right onto the grates next to the fish for a 5-minute side that tastes like summer.
