About
Hello, I’m Juliea!
Farmhouse Harvest is your source for easy from scratch recipes, sourdough, gardening tips and preserving the harvest!
Welcome to Farmhouse Harvest, I’m Juliea, and I’ve dedicated over 25 years to being a full-time mother, homemaker, gardener, and a passionate cook from scratch.
My journey includes over 20 years of nurturing my family through preserving, cultivating a garden, and mastering the art of sourdough!
I’ve been fascinated with cooking food since I was about 7 years old! Learning the basics from my mother, and others, has allowed me to customize and create recipes.
When I’m not in the kitchen, I love working out in the garden, taking long walks, and blogging!
How I Develop Recipes
I’m always thinking about new recipes to try… Especially when looking at a restaurant menu, or watch a cooking show! New dishes and ingredients captivate my attention… Then I’ll do a bit of research and start cooking!
Recipe Development Process
(Let’s use Boston Butt Roast for example)
- My first step is to ask questions like: What is this cut of meat? What characteristics does this roast have? For example: is it white meat or dark, is it fatty or lean, etc.? Are there other varieties to consider? And, What’s the best way to cook or preserve it? What makes this dish best… a crust, a tender interior? etc.
- I study what a good boson butt roast, looks like, and it’s characteristics…. I talk to my favorite local butcher, depending on the type of recipe, and get their advice.
- Then I’ll read as many recipes as I can to decide the best cooking times and temperatures to get best results… And the best seasonings to compliment it. This is when I make my ingredient list!
- Next, I’ll buy a few Boston Butt Pork Roasts, pork butt roasts or pork shoulder roasts.
- Then I work on my cooking method and taste profile! (Taste is customized to my taste, but the seasonings in the original recipe can be easily adjusted to your preference!)
- Cooking method: Whether it’s in an oven, Instant Pot or crock pot… I study out dozens of recipes to come up with simple cooking techniques that WORK best.
- Cooking Time: Cooking times in my recipes come from my experience after, testing the recipe several times. For example… I’ll cook roasts to rare, medium and well done, and share those time ranges or target internal temperatures.
- The taste: I do recipe testing with basic ingredients to achieve the best taste, in my opinion;)
- Finally, I write the recipe step by step, in easy to understand terms, so you can understand the process!
Please feel free to leave any questions in the comments below each recipe… I answer them daily!

A Little About Me
I’ve been a full time homemaker, gardener, and from scratch cook for over 25 years… I love sharing from scratch savory meats, how to preserving, and sourdough recipes that my family loves!
Many of the recipes I share have been passed down for generations, or have been a staple on our kitchen for many years…. And some are my new favorites:)
My mother taught me so many things…. Including a love for growing and preserving a garden!
Everything I share was influenced by her in one way or another, and some of those things are the farmhouse we’ve built, and the homestead we’re developing! I also love to share those homestead projects in hopes they inspire your own homestead and homemaking journey!

Cooking From Scratch
My culinary journey spans thousands of breakfasts, lunches, and dinners prepared from scratch. I specialize in crafting savory meats that delight the palate, preserving the harvest to savor its bounty year-round, and baking the perfect sourdough, which has become a staple in my family’s kitchen.
Green-Thumbed Gardener
For the past two decades, I’ve cultivated organic, chemical-free gardens in my backyard, growing berries and delicious food for my family and friends. I like to share tips I’ve found valuable and guidance for successfully growing your own yummy veggies and beautiful flowers.
Raised in the bone dry California Mojave Desert, I’ve always been drawn to beautiful gardens and the peace of country living. I feel like just being in the garden is refreshing to the body ad soul!
The Farmhouse
For the last 15 years we’ve loved living in Idaho, and dreamed of a large acreage. In 2020 we sold our home on 1.5 acres, and moved to a ten acres of alfalfa fields!

A Few Fun Facts About Me
- My oldest is 24 and my youngest is 4! Yes, all from the same marriage;)
- I really love being a mom, and my babies! My kids often ask what I wanted to be when I grew up… And my answer has always been, A mom! Being a mother is the most fulfilling job I’ve ever had… No one will ever love you like your children, so really enjoy them while you can!
- After moving to Idaho I fully embraced the “meat and potatoes” lifestyle;) This was a huge change for me!
- I started blogging in 2009 for our company, Responsible Pest Control. We sold that, and now I get to blog about what I love!
- We’ve raised and butchered our own rabbits, pigs, chickens, turkeys and goats… Plus my husbands annual deer or elk harvest.
- If it were warm enough, and socially acceptable, I wouldn’t wear shoes (unless I’m going to the chicken coop:)
- I love and try to follow Jesus Christ, and am member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
- I LOVE making sourdough breads and sourdough rolls…. Especially when it’s cold outside!
