In this recipe, I’m sharing how to season your rump roast with a blend of aromatic herbs and spices, for a savory and delicious main course that’s sure to impress!

Season Rump Roast

Before you start seasoning your rump roast, it’s essential to decide on the seasoning blend that you want to use. You can use pre-made seasoning blends that are available in most grocery stores or create your own blend using your favorite herbs and spices.

In this recipe, we’re using a classic blend of garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, dried rosemary, salt, and pepper.

Prepare the rump roast: The next step is to prepare the rump roast by trimming any excess fat or connective tissue with a sharp knife. It’s best to leave a thin layer of fat on the roast to help keep it moist and flavorful during cooking. You can also tie the roast with kitchen twine to help it cook evenly.

Apply the oil: Rub the rump roast with a couple of tablespoons of olive oil to help the seasoning stick to the meat. Olive oil also adds moisture to the meat and helps it brown evenly during cooking.

Apply the seasoning: Sprinkle the seasoning blend all over the rump roast, making sure to coat all sides evenly. Use your hands to rub the seasoning into the meat to ensure that it is well-distributed.

Let Seasoned Rump Roast Marinate

You can let the seasoned rump roast marinate in the fridge for a few hours or overnight to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat. If you’re short on time, you can skip this step and go straight to cooking.

Rump Roast Seasoning Recipe

These measurements are for a 3-4 pound rump roast, adjust accordingly:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

How much Salt & Pepper Should I Use?

Good question! While it’s always best to adjust the amount of salt and pepper to your taste, a general guideline for seasoning a 3-4 lb rump roast with salt and pepper would be about 1-2 teaspoons of salt and 1/2-1 teaspoon of black pepper.

However, keep in mind that the amount of seasoning you use may vary depending on your personal preferences and the seasoning blend you are using. It’s always best to start with a smaller amount of seasoning and add more as needed. You can also use a meat thermometer to check the seasoning level as the roast cooks and adjust accordingly.

It’s important to find the right balance of rump roast seasoning that complements the natural flavors of the meat without overpowering it.
