Home Canning

At its heart, home canning is a method of preserving food by packing it into glass jars, removing the air, and then heating the jars to a temperature high enough to kill any harmful microorganisms (like bacteria, yeasts, and molds) that could cause spoilage.

This process also creates a vacuum seal, preventing new contaminants from entering and allowing your food to be safely stored at room temperature for extended periods. We home can with water bath canners and pressure canners.

You can home can meals in a jar, like the chicken pot pie filling pictured above, or single ingredients, like carrots, to use in recipes… I do both, but really enjoy meals ready to go!
