How To Make A Lavender Wreath
Equipment
- Wire Cutters
- Floral Wire or scissors
- Wreath Base (can be a metal, straw, or foam wreath base)
Materials
- Fresh or Dried Lavender Stems
- Ribbon Optional
Instructions
- Prepare your lavender stems: Harvest fresh lavender stems from your garden or buy them from a local flower shop. Make sure the lavender is completely dry before using it in your wreath. This will prevent mold or wilting.
- Gather your tools and materials: Lay out your work area with all the materials you'll need: wire cutters, floral wire (or scissors), the wreath base, and the lavender stems.
- Prepare the wreath base: If you're using a metal or straw wreath base, you might want to wrap it with green floral tape or ribbon to create a more appealing and natural look. If you're using a foam wreath base, it's ready to use as is.
- Create small lavender bundles: Take a small bunch of lavender stems (about 5-7 stems) and arrange them in a neat, even bundle. Make sure the stems are roughly the same length.
- Secure the lavender bundles: Use floral wire or scissors to secure the lavender bundle to the wreath base. Start by wrapping the wire around the base and the lavender stems. Make it tight enough to hold the lavender securely but not so tight that it damages the stems. Trim any excess wire with your wire cutters or scissors.
- Continue adding lavender bundles: Repeat the process, creating more lavender bundles and attaching them to the wreath base. You can overlap the bundles slightly to cover the entire base. Work your way around the wreath until the base is fully covered with lavender.
- Fill in any gaps: If there are any gaps or areas that look sparse, go back and add more lavender bundles to fill them in.
- Hang and display: Once you're satisfied with the coverage and the appearance of your lavender wreath, you can attach a ribbon or twine loop to the back for hanging.
- Allow the wreath to dry: Lavender wreaths will continue to dry and release their fragrance over time. Hang your wreath in a cool, dry place with good airflow to help preserve it.
- Your lavender wreath is now ready to adorn your home with its soothing fragrance and natural beauty. With proper care, it can last for several months, and you can enjoy the calming scent of lavender in your space.
