If you like pancakes… You’re going to LOVE this Sweet Cream Pancakes Recipe! Served hot, these soft, fluffy, perfectly moist pancakes practically MELT in your mouth, and have the best flavor!

I’ve been making pancakes for over 30 years now, and everytime my sisters (I have 3 of them) come to visit, they want sweet cream pancakes for breakfast! I do take pride in my fluffy breakfast perfection… These are SO good that you’ll want to have seconds!

It’s amazing how much more your kids seem to love you when you make these for them, but it’s time to share the fame… I’m sharing my secret recipe so my sisters (who live quite far away) can make this family favorite recipe for their own kids at home!

Sweet Cream Pancakes Ingredients

  • 2 cups white flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tsp baking powder.
  • 4 tablespoons White Sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup sweet cream

Equiptment

Griddle or Skillet (preferable, but not required, with a glass lid). I make sweet cream pancakes for a crew so I use a big griddle like this one:

Mixer or Beater for egg whites. I use my KitchenAid Mixer, but a hand held beater works great for egg whites too!

Rubber Spatula To Fold Egg Whites Into batter.

Wire Whisk or Large Spoon To Stir Batter.

Soft Spatula For Flipping Pancakes on Griddle.

How To Make Sweet Cream Pancakes

  1. Mix dry ingredients: flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, in large mixing bowl.
  2. Add wet ingredients: 1 egg, melted butter, milk, sweet cream, and vanilla extract.
  3. Mix till all incorporated, and set aside.
  4. In a separate mixing bowl, separate eggs, and set aside the whites.
  5. Using a stand mixer (or a hand beater), beat egg whites till they form firm peaks.
  6. . Gently fold beaten egg whites into batter. If there are a few lumps it’s OK… They will be wonderful!
  7. Heat griddle or skillet to medium heat (not medium-high because they take longer to cook through), and coat with butter.
  8. Scoop about a third cup of batter onto the preheated griddle for each pancake, about 1 inch thick.
  9. Cook for 2-3 minutes until bottom is golden brown and little air holes or bubbles appear. Flip and cook on opposite side for 2-3 more minutes till bottom is golden brown.

Sweet Cream Pancakes are best served hot, immediately as they come off the griddle!

How To Cook On Griddle With Lid

I like to cook these pancakes on a griddle with a glass lid. This helps pancakes cook faster internally so that finished pancakes are lighter on the outside! Watch pancakes cooking through glass lid, and when you see little bubbles or holes coming up through the batter, they are ready to flip! See picture below:

Choose Your Toppings

My favorite way to eat sweet cream pancakes ALWAYS includes butter, whipped sweet cream, and freezer jam or maple syrup!

Tips

  • I set my griddle to 250. If it’s too hot the outside will cook but the inside will be doughy.
  • Don’t over beat egg whites, or they don’t fold in as smoothly.
  • Don’t under beat egg whites or they won’t add the airy texture that make these pancakes SING!
  • These are served best hot off the griddle! I like to start serving my family as I get the second batch of pancakes on the griddle. The first batch is still hot, we bless the food and the second batch comes off in just a minute!
  • Don’t over cook! If you overcook pancakes they get tougher.
  • I like to butter these while they are still on the griddle so butter melts into them!
  • You can easily make these with your favorite flour by substituting cup for cup.

Can I Substitute Cream for Milk in Pancakes?

It should be obvious now that YOU CAN SUBSTITUTE CREAM FOR MILK in pancake recipes. You can also use Coconut Milk, Coconut Cream, and Buttermilk instead of regular milk in pancake recipes. Using cream instead of milk results in a bit thicker batter, and a much creamier pancake that is moist and MELTS in your mouth!

Suggested Serving Ideas

I love to serve these heavenly pancakes for breakfast with butter, strawberry freezer jam, fresh berries, real maple syrup, and whip cream! They’re also wonderful topped with greek yogurt, peanut butter, and powdered sugar!

Sweet Cream Pancakes pair perfectly with a protein including scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage!

But don’t be fooled! These fluffy pancakes are great for dinner too!

When you mentioned sweet cream in your recipe is that just sweetened condensed milk? Or is there a recipe for sweet cream that you made?

    • Hi Allison! Sweet Cream refers to heavy cream from a cow… It’s “sweet” because it’s not soured with cultures.

  • I LOVE making these for breakfast! We eat our sweet cream pancakes with apricot freezer jam and whipped cream… Delish!
