This easy stuffing recipe is inspired by Grandma's because I never liked Turkey Stuffing till I tried hers! Her turkey stuffing is full of celery, onion, seasonings, and brown turkey meat, and it is packed with flavor and it's so satisfying!
As a kid, I didn't care for it. Maybe it was the way my parents made it, maybe it was because kids don't like stuffing? I don't know, but as an adult, I LOVE stuffing, and look forward to it every year!
Turkey Stuffing
The first time I realized that I love stuffing was at Grandma's house. She always made a huge Thanksgiving Feast and invited everyone to come. She didn't get upset if you couldn't make it, just happy if you did!
Ingredients
- 6 cups (about 12 ounces) dry bread for stuffing. You can use your favorite kind of bread: sourdough, white, wheat etc.
- 3 cups of cooked & chopped brown turkey meat from your roasted turkey.
- 2 cups chopped celery
- 2 cups diced onion
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 3 cups of turkey broth or pan drippings.
- ½ cup of butter, divided in half
- Seasonings: Teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon pepper, ½ teaspoon sage, and half a teaspoon garlic powder.
How To Make Turkey Stuffing Directions
I do not bake stuffing in the turkey cavity because it can make it stuffing mushy and slow the cooking of Turkey.
Butter a 9x11 cooking dish and set it aside.
Prep your veggies: Mice garlic, and chop your celery and onions.
Add ¼ cup of butter to a skillet and sauté garlic, onions and celery till their soft. (5-10 minutes.)
In a large bowl combine cooked garlic, onions & celery and liquid from that pan with dry stuffing bread.
Add 3 cups of chopped cooked turkey meat, and toss bowl ingredients together with seasonings. If you don't want to use your turkey meat i the stuffing, this is also good with sausage!
Drizzle turkey broth (or pan drippings) and melted ¼ cup butter over the bowl mixture.
Empty bowl into prepared 7x11 baking dish.
Cover with aluminum foil or oven safe lid.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes.
Serve warm with Turkey Dinner!
To Make Bread Pieces For Stuffing
Cute a loaf of bread into small pieces no bigger than ½-1 inch. Place bread on a cookie sheet, and place in the oven at 225 degrees F for about 30-45 minutes, or till dry!
How To Serve Turkey Stuffing
I serve turkey stuffing every Thanksgiving with my Roast Turkey. Use some of the brown meat from the turkey in this stuffing and slice the rest of the turkey meat, and serve on a pretty plate.
I also serve stuffing with candied yams, a large green bean casserole, old fashioned cranberry sauce, homemade sourdough rolls, flakey apple pie, and rich pumpkin pie, and my favorite... Maple pecan pie!
Print free turkey coloring pages for your littles this Thanksgiving, to work on as you're cooking. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends!
