What Are Country Style Pork Ribs?
Country-style pork ribs aren’t actually ribs... Baked to fall apart perfection, these boneless pork ribs are from the shoulder cut of pork... It's the same meat used for pulled pork! If you were to get these as bone-in “ribs” you’d see the same y-shaped bone you see when cooking bone-in pork butt roast or pork shoulder roast.

The baking time is easy for you as it's all hands-off! After only 10 minutes of prep time, country style ribs are ready to go in the oven! Your oven does almost all the work, so you can relax!
Ingredients & Directions
One of the best things about these mouth-watering BBQ ribs is that they are meaty, flavorful, inexpensive, and easy to make!
- 4 pounds of country style pork ribs. You can use either bone in or boneless ribs... Just decrease the cooking time for boneless ribs by 30 minutes!
- Dry Rub
- 1 ½-2 cups of your favorite BBQ sauce
- Preheat oven temperature to 300 degrees.
- Line a baking dish with foil for easy cleanup!
- Start to prepare or choose a dry rub.
- Season ribs generously with the dry rub!
Tools
You'll need a roasting pan and aluminum foil and a basting brush!
Dry Rub Mix
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 tablespoon packed dark brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 2 teaspoons cumin
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- A teaspoon of onion powder
- 1 tsp of your favorite salt
- ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
5- After seasoning, place ribs in a single layer on your foil lined baking dish. (Use a baking dish instead of a tray, because you need a high rim for juices that the meat will release as it bakes.) If using a baking sheet, make sure you've got some good side rims to hold juices.
- 6- Cover ribs tightly with foil and bake at 300°F. Set timer for 2 hours cooking time. (Go read a book, watch your favorite show, workout, or relax for a couple hours while your oven is doing the work!
- 7- After baking for 2 hours, uncover the ribs (be careful because the steam will be very hot) DRAIN OFF liquid from baking dish. Beware, the ribs look kind'a gross and at this point in the process... Don’t worry, next time they come out of the oven, they'll be tender and beautiful!
- 8- Using a brush, apply a generous coat of your favorite BBQ sauce over all of the ribs.
- 9- Bake uncovered for another 1 hour.
- 10- Turn oven to the broil setting, broil for 2 minutes to let bbq sauce bubble and lightly brown. KEEP AN EYE ON THEM SO THEY DON'T BURN.
- 11- Brush with a little more sauce.
- 12- Let ribs rest for 5-10 minutes, and enjoy!
Serve With
This hearty main dish calls for hearty side dishes! I love to serve country-style ribs with these sides: loaded potato salad, or Mashed potatoes and country-style gravy, baked beans, Pasta Salad, fruit salad, corn-on-the-cob, or thick slices of homemade bread spread with garlic butter garlic, and salt.

Notes
Making these for a party or large gathering? A good rule of thumb is to make 2 (two) ribs for each person. That is a generous serving, and I think it's always better to have extras than not enough. If you are making a large batch of country style ribs, prepare them 2 trays at a time.
You will need to add fifteen minutes to the first baking time, so 2 hours and 15 minutes, then swap spots (one on top of the other) halfway through both baking times... This way they will cook evenly on both trays.
Be super careful taking ribs out of the oven the first time! There is a lot of HOT liquid that can splash out of the pan and burn you. Plus the steam is super hot when opening the foil!
Applying BBQ sauce requires a brush. I love silicone basting brushes because they work awesome, last forever, and can go in the dishwasher without problems.
You can also make this recipe using a slow cooker too. Just remember to drain off extra liquid after the first 2 hours of cooking, then cover these bad boys with your favorite BBQ sauce and continue cooking on low for another 2 hours. Then easily serve these from your crock pot or slow cooker!
Leftovers
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Leftover country style ribs make awesome the next-day for sandwiches! Just put them between bread or on a roll with some mustard, lettuce, or sauerkraut and you've got a tasty lunch!

Are Baked Country Style Pork Ribs Tough?
Country-style ribs can be tough if they aren't cooked right! If you try to grill them, they'll be tough. However, if you cook them right, meaning slow and low like this recipe, they will be fall off the bone (or blade) tender and delicious!
These cheap, easy to make and oh so good ribs are an excellent alternative to baby back pork ribs... It could be your new favorite way to eat pork!
Tips
Do not butter or grease your baking dish... These "ribs" have plenty of fat that melts while they cook preventing them from sticking. That fat also makes these tender and delicious!
At the grocery store look for country-style ribs that are evenly sized, so they cook evenly!
Try adding a couple of teaspoons of apple cider vinegar for extra flavor and tenderness!
Let your ribs REST for 10 minutes after removing them from the oven! This allows your meat to reabsorb its juices before serving!

Melissa Craver
Hi, I am going to make these ribs today but I need some clarification please. Sorry I I have made ribs one other time and they are my husband’s favorite so I want to do it right. The cook time states 4 hours but the instructions say 2 hour and then after bbq sauce 1 hour. Is the correct time 3 hours or is it supposed to be 2 hours after the bbq sauce is applied? Thank you and I can’t wait to try these.
juliea
Hi Melissa! Sorry for the confusion! Yes, you are correct, the total time is 3 hours! You just cook them for one more hour after applying BBQ sauce... Hope you enjoy it! (Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I fixed the recipe card.)
V
The cook time in the recipe card now says 3 minutes. Also, in the write-up before the recipe card you say to preheat the oven to 300, then in the directions it says to bake at 275. In the recipe card it says 300 for both.
Looking forward to trying these today!

Thanks for stopping by JVrock! Thanks for the heads up... Its 3 hours cooking time not minutes and the 275 is for reheating not cooking the first time. Enjoy!
