This huckleberry freezer jam is the best huckleberry jam in the world… No joke. Made with fresh huckleberries, a touch of sugar, and no processing!

Huckleberries are like small blueberries but with even more intense flavor!
The delicious berries grow wild in the Idaho mountains, and we love to pick them along hiking trails. There are also professional huckleberry pickers who sell them at farmers markets at the end of July and beginning of August when they’re in season.
Huckleberry Jam
Traditional jam recipes for huckleberry jam are loaded with sugar and have way less fresh huckleberries. They’re famously good and sold in shops and specialty stores.
Huckleberry freezer jam is a burst of pure berry goodness…. It’s all berry just complimented with a little sugar, lemon and thickener! That’s it… Super simple ingredients. So if you’ve put in the effort to pick cups of huckleberries (or paid the high price for them at farmers markets) do yourself a favor, and make jam the best way – Huckleberry Freezer Jam!
Nothing is better during the cooler months to enjoy a bite a fresh huckleberry freezer jam on an English muffin, hot pancakes or sourdough waffle for breakfast! (It’s also amazing over vanilla ice cream for dessert!)

Simple Ingredients
This homemade huckleberry jam only requires 4 simple ingredients:
- Huckleberries (fresh or frozen will work too.)
- A little sugar – I use white sugar.
- A little EZ Gel thickener. (Sold in the canning section at grocery stores and walmart, or get it on Amazon.)
- Lemon Juice – Fresh lemon juice or lemon juice concentrate both work well here. This complements the huckleberry flavor and helps keep the beautiful color intact!
Tools
There is no special equipment, or canning supplies needed to make this easy jam recipe. You just need:
- Measuring cups
- A large bowl
- A blender, food processor or a simple potato masher;)
- Freezer Jars. These jars are made so they don’t break from temperature changes and freezing then thawing… Invest in them! There’s nothing worse than putting all your effort into making a delicious treat, and having the jar break before you can even enjoy it. That’s it… Easy peasy!
